Bimetallic coins are produced by over 105 countries today, but bi-metallic pieces are not new by any means. The romans were producing bi-metallic medallions from around 196-197 A.D. The first bi-metallic coin to be widely used in the 20th century is the 500 Lira issued by the Italian government in 1982.
The Worldwide Bi-Metallic Collectors Club (WBCC) was the very first intenet coin club, and is the place for collectors interested in bi-metallic and tri-metallic coins and medals. They offer an extensive image gallery and their site is located at http://www.wbcc-online.com.
